Founded in George Town, Built Around Families
Tallowmark opened its doors in 2017 in a shophouse off Lebuh Pantai, at the heart of George Town's old commercial quarter. The founding team had watched — in their own families and among clients in adjacent fields — how frequently the absence of organised records and open conversation turned an already difficult time into something much harder than it needed to be.
The name Tallowmark comes from the practice of marking candles to track time — a small, deliberate act of keeping things in order for the household. That sense of quiet preparedness runs through everything we offer.
We are not solicitors, financial planners, or estate administrators. What we do is help families gather what they have, understand what they are looking at, and hold the conversations that make it possible for the right people to act when the time comes. The licensed professionals in your life can do their work far more smoothly when your household already has its papers organised and your family already knows the outline of your wishes.
Our programmes are designed for adults at any stage — those who have recently married, those approaching retirement, and adult children who want to support ageing parents in a structured way. We work entirely in an educational capacity, and our sessions are deliberately free of sales pressure or financial product promotion.

Our Team
Lim Hui Shan
Founder & Programme Director
Hui Shan has spent over fifteen years working in adult education and household advisory in Penang. She designed Tallowmark's core curriculum and facilitates the Family Conversations programme.
Rajendran Suresh
Head of Curriculum & Materials
Suresh brings a background in document management and records organisation to Tallowmark's printed materials, templates, and archive binder systems used across all programmes.
Nur Farhana
Participant Support Coordinator
Farhana manages enrolments, coordinates cohort schedules, and is the first point of contact for families joining a programme. She handles follow-up sessions and the six-month review calls.
How We Work
Standards We Hold Ourselves To
Education-Only Scope
We are clear in every session and every material about what we do and do not do. No legal advice, no financial product recommendations, no pressure to purchase anything beyond the programme itself.
Participant Privacy
Family information shared during sessions stays in the room. We do not collect or share personal financial or asset details, and our data handling follows Malaysia's Personal Data Protection Act 2010.
Reviewed Materials
All programme templates, workbooks, and printed guides are reviewed periodically to reflect current administrative practices in Malaysia. We update materials when relevant regulations or common practices change.
No Conflicts of Interest
Tallowmark does not receive referral fees or commissions from legal firms, financial planners, or any other third parties. When we suggest participants consult a professional, that is the whole of our interest in the matter.
Small Group Sizes
Cohort programmes are capped to ensure each family gets adequate attention. The Family Archive Programme runs with no more than eight households per cohort so the facilitator can work meaningfully with each participant.
Ongoing Support
The Family Archive Programme includes a six-month follow-up review. Past participants can also contact our office with questions about their archive at any time, at no additional charge.
What We Stand For
Household Readiness as an Act of Care
Families in Malaysia face a particular set of considerations when it comes to property, identification, and administrative coordination. Multi-generational households, land titles held in shared names, and the practical realities of coordinating across different states or countries are all part of the picture. Tallowmark's programmes are designed with this context in mind — not as a generic template imported from elsewhere, but as material shaped by years of conversation with families in Penang and across Peninsular Malaysia.
We believe that household preparedness is, at its core, an act of care for the people you share your life with. Knowing where the insurance schedule is kept, or having spoken clearly about which trusted person should be called first in an emergency, is a form of kindness that tends to go unrecognised until it is urgently needed.
Our work does not substitute for the advice of licensed professionals — solicitors, certified financial planners, and notaries all have roles that we are not qualified to fill. What we do is help families arrive at those conversations in a far more prepared state, which makes the professionals' work more efficient and the whole process less bewildering for everyone involved.
